National Endowment for the Arts Presents Great American Voices at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base, December 22

Washington, D.C. - The National Endowment for the Arts, in partnership with the United States Air Force, presents a performance of opera and musical theater for military personnel at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base in Dayton, Ohio, on Thursday, December 22. The performance is part of the NEA's Great American Voices Military Base Tour: Unforgettable Melodies from Opera & Broadway, which celebrates the best of American arts by bringing professional performances of opera and musical theater to 39 military bases nationwide.
The concert, for Wright-Patterson troops and their families, will feature performers from Michigan Opera Theatre, who will sing selections from popular operas such as Bizet's Carmen, highlights from classic American musicals including Rodgers & Hammerstein's Oklahoma!, and holiday music favorites. On Wednesday, December 21, the Michigan Opera Theatre performers will present the children's opera The Night Harry Stopped Smoking to K-8 students from the base.
In addition to the military base tour, the NEA also has produced a compact disc with opera and Broadway excerpts and commentary, to be distributed to audience members and teachers at participating schools. Michigan Opera Theatre performs for Wright-Patterson Air Force Base
Michigan Opera Theatre of Detroit, Michigan, will perform Great American Voices on December 22 at 7:00 p.m. at the Base Theater, Kittyhawk Center at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base.
